What is happening in Myanmar?

Since the illegal military coup in February 2021, the junta has unleashed a brutal campaign of terror against its own people, committing widespread atrocities, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

Thousands of innocent civilians have been slaughtered, including women and children, often through indiscriminate airstrikes, shelling, torture, and extrajudicial killings. As of 2025, over 3.5 million people have been internally displaced, forced from their homes and communities, now struggling for survival without adequate food, shelter, or medical care. Arbitrary arrests and detentions have soared, with tens of thousands of pro-democracy activists, journalists, medical workers, and ordinary citizens thrown into inhumane prisons, many facing torture and death sentences.
